05 Dec An open letter to the father of the bride
We all know that the wedding day is ALL ABOUT THE BRIDE, as a Westchester wedding photographer, I know that all too well. We’ve all heard about that overbearing mother that wants to steal the spotlight too, but what about the father of the bride? The man behind the scenes that usually doesn’t want the attention or the credit, he’s the man of the house, he’s happy just to see his little girl treated like a princess on her special day. Well Dads, I say don’t settle for that; don’t settle for just being there and looking decent. This isn’t just one of the most important days of your daughter’s life, its also one of yours. So, in my opinion, you should dress for the occasion. I’m sure you have certainly spent enough money on her wedding, so why not splurge a little on yourself? Don’t settle for a cookie-cutter tux from Men’s Warehouse, buy a custom suit or tux! Now, I am going to use Bob Anastasio as an example because when I saw this man he blew me away with his style and confidence. I don’t normally sit the father of the bride down for a portrait, but you could tell he put time and effort into his outfit and I appreciate that. Now, without further a due here are three reasons why you should dress to the 9’s on your daughters wedding day:
Reason # 1 – One of my mantras is: “if you look good, you feel good” and you could tell Bob was feeling good by the smile on his face.
Reason #2 – You will actually be center of attention a few times throughout the day. For example, if you do a first look with your daughter, you will be the first man to see how beautiful she looks in her dress. That photo series will absolutely make the wedding album. When you walk your daughter down the aisle to give her away, you better believe that photo is making the album. We can’t forget about the father daughter dance which will have her crying and everyone else swooning. Like it or not, you got a big role to play in her wedding day so go big or go home!
Reason #3 – Family photos! You are paying all this money for a photographer to capture this momentous occasion, but he or she can only make you look so good. You have to come prepared looking your best in order for the photographer to capture you at your best. In all likelihood you will order at least one family photo as a print for your living room, so think of your suit or tux as a lifetime investment where you will forever look amazing in that moment in time.
So Fathers of the bride, coming from a wedding photographer, step your game up! Use Bob as an example, you don’t have to buy a custom Tux like Bob but at the very least you should be adding a little pizazz to your outfit. Pick a pocket square that brings out your eyes, wear a bow tie with a pop of color, anything to set you apart from the rest of the wedding party in their monkey suits. Believe me, you won’t regret it and your photographer will definitely notice. As a Westchester wedding photographer I know how important it is to look good, so if you are going to purchase a tux or suit think of it as an investment in yourself, I am sure this wont be the last wedding or special event you go to, so put some use to that outfit and wear it with confidence every time!
